Review Of The Rich Jerk

Author: Stephen Carter

This article presents a comprehensive review of the ebook offered by the internet marketing celebrity known as The Rich Jerk. This title is a #1 BestSeller in Clickbank's Marketing How To's category. In addition, Super Affiliate Rosalind Gardner has endorsed the book and confirmed that the methods revealed by The Rich Jerk do indeed work.

The Rich Jerk

Summary

If you are in a hurry and just want the verdict, here it is. The Rich Jerk's ebook is a straight-shooting, no holds barred look at the internet marketing methods he claims have made him a wheelbarrow full of money.

The book is far from perfect, but there is a lot of useful information here, and if you are serious about rolling up your sleeves and jumping into the world of web-based marketing then you'll definitely want to add this ebook to your virtual shelf.

Review

The first thing you'll note when reading this ebook is that The Rich Jerk says right off the bat that you may regard some of his strategies as "morally/ethically questionable", even "hardcore". But he hastens to add that this applies to just a portion of his methods, certainly not all. Read to the end of the book, he suggests, before you discount the ideas. You owe yourself and your wallet at least that much.

The Rich Jerk's offering is segmented into 9 very short chapters. There are only 60 pages in the entire ebook, so you know ahead of time that if it is going to be worth the money you paid for it the information provided must be lean and to the point. Here is my assessment of The Rich Jerk, broken down chapter by chapter.

CHAPTER 1: Creating an Affiliate Website that Sells like Crazy

The Rich Jerk points out that of all the possible Affiliate Networks you might join, Clickbank (which deals exclusively with digital goods--and which is the focus of Clickbank Hotshots) is the top pick. The Rich Jerk emphasizes that he has consistently "made a killing" selling informational products.

Several distinct avenues are explored here for creating affiliate websites that "sell like crazy". But the guts of this chapter is the presentation of the 5 aspects of good (i.e. selling) sales copy that have been used in every successful website that The Rich Jerk has created. To find out what these aspects are, and how they should be applied to your own affiliate website (if you have one), you will of course need to purchase the book. The Rich Jerk applies these principles to the construction of a killer sample sales letter for use in, say, a newsletter mailout. Curiously, the sales letter turns out to be a lot like the copy I use to convince people to use this site to select affiliate programs worthy of their personal promotion. Overall, I would say the points made in this chapter are valid and can be applied to your own sales efforts (but with some tailoring--I am inclined to dismiss entirely any advice given to mislead potential customers about the impartiality of your sales claims).

This chapter also offers some good advice on how to lend credibility to your own site by adding seals of approval from other respectable websites.

CHAPTER 2: Unique Search Engine PPC Strategies--that Kill the Competition

This chapter is all about turning a profit by utilizing a particular strategy which involves Pay Per Click advertising on the big (expensive) search engine sites like Google and Yahoo, and the smaller (cheaper) ones like Miva and Kanoodle. But not in the way you might think at first. You neither need to be an advertiser, nor a merchant with advertisable goods, to use this method. The Rich Jerk notes that advertising revenue is a pressurized stream of money that flows through the pipes of the search engine industry. Some pipes are under more pressure than others and there is nothing stopping you from performing a little plumbing of your own to redistribute the flow from the high pressure to the low pressure areas... and in doing so, bleed off a portion of that flow right into your bank account. Judging from the comments found on the testimonials page of The Rich Jerk's site, this technique appears to be highly effective.

This chapter is also dedicated to the concept of killer ad copy. The Rich Jerk is a master of it, and you can be too. Find out how to write off-the-wall Google Adwords advertisements that bring visitors to your site in droves (if you found this review through a sponsored link in a search engine there is a very good chance it was because I applied this exact technique to get you here). It isn't rocket science, it's just a matter of looking at ad design differently than most other people do, and using that to your advantage. This is my favorite chapter by far.

CHAPTER 3: Search Engine Optimization Stategies

How do you increase your Page Rank in search engines to get traffic to your website? Well, you can pay for it, which The Rich Jerk recommends, and then there are other ways that require nothing but some elbow grease. The entire business of Search Engine Optimization is a big one, and only the surface is really scratched here. Still, you'll find some observations here that will likely help you in this one task that every web marketer needs to master. The Rich Jerk covers both "White Hat" SEO strategies (the legal ones that take time), and the "Black Hat" methods like cloaking, which he says lazy webmasters like himself love to use when no-one is looking. Remember, he did say upfront that we'd question the ethics of some of his tactics.

CHAPTER 4: Selling Your Own Informational Product

For a lot of people, the idea of using Clickbank to sell their own digital product is attractive, and this chapter will no doubt peak their interest. However, I personally found these pages to be thin. If this chapter was removed from the ebook altogether it would probably not decrease its overall appeal. At the very least it needs to be expanded. The Rich Jerk has done a good job selling his own product, but little of that experience has found its way onto the page.

CHARTER 5: Buying Wholesale and Selling on Ebay

Avoiding wholesale scammers is the focus of this part of the book. The Rich Jerk devotes a lot of copy to this subject, presumably to scare the bejeezus out of you before offering links to the trustworthy wholesalers who are "Rich Jerk Certified". The whole chapter seems to have been constructed according to the methods outlined in Chapter 1, relating to good sales copy. If you are interested in buying wholesale products in bulk, to resell them on Ebay or elsewhere, this chapter could be the only thing in The Rich Jerk's ebook that talks to you. It didn't talk to me because, like The Rich Jerk himself, handling physical goods seems too much like real work!

CHAPTER 6: Websites you can Make Profitable Right Now

Page 43 of The Rich Jerk's ebook ought to be posted on Clickbank Hotshots. It discusses how one should interpret the statistical information that Clickbank makes available about the Merchant Programs it administers. It's exactly the kind of information you want to apply to the (same) numbers appearing in the Clickbank Hotshots review section.

After the Clickbank summary The Rich Jerk reveals the identity of some of the websites he claims to have developed to great success, and which have helped make him a millionaire. Getting this information is one of the core motivating factors behind our purchase of his ebook, so it's a good thing it's there, or we would all be mightily disappointed. Only a handful of his sites are revealed, but it is enough for you to get a good feel for what he has spent his time doing. The interesting thing is that all of these sites are fairly low-quality as far as the design goes. Yet, apparently, it works.

CHAPTER 7: Other Online Ventures to Consider

If you are rich, like The Rich Jerk, you might want to try your hand at really high risk online currency exchange strategies. But for those faint of heart, for those who cannot afford to lose big time, you need to steer clear of this chapter. It has all the hallmarks of the high risk Wall Street investment strategies of past that have brought ruination (and sometimes riches) to players. Most of us will have neither the desire nor the means to try our hand here.

CHAPTER 8: Supplemental Info for Beginners

This is pretty much a recap of things discussed in more detail in earlier chapters, and slanted towards the beginner. However the infomation presented here seems to have been produced in a hurry, is poorly edited (worse than the rest of the book, which could also do with some editing), and just seems to dilute the overall quality of the product. I think this material could be worked into the earlier chapters rather than have it reappear again toward the end.

CHAPTER 9: Quality Products/Services I Highly Recommend

A one page summary of the products The Rich Jerk is keen to promote.

That's it. Now you know the secrets of The Rich Jerk--or will if you buy his book, like I did. One last note. I don't regard this ebook as a finished product. There is a lot of room for improvement, and I hope The Rich Jerk eventually fills out his offering. But there is a lot of useful money-making information here that you can use right now, and for that reason I can recommend the book to you with no hesitation whatsoever.
