Paid Survey Sites -- The Truth
Author: Stephen Carter
The first thing you need to know about making money with paid survey sites is that it requires
a *lot* of your time to fill out the forms when you first start out. So if you were looking to
make a few dollars quickly, this is probably not the kind of work-from-home job you were hoping
for. When you get the hang of it, though, you can expect to make about $25 per hour for the time
that you do spend taking surveys (which is generally well short of an hour per day). So already
you can see this will not be your road to riches.
Avoid The Credit Card Offers
Many of these so called paid survey sites actually require you to purchase something to get the
information you need--like the source of the surveys. If you are lucky you might find that someone
is offering something that you were thinking about purchasing anyway, like a subscription to NetFlix.
You need to be careful here as you may receive requests from some of these sites to sign up for
new credit cards which you no doubt do not need. You will be baited with "free offers" that,
as mentioned above, are not free at all. At the very least they may require that you reveal a
good deal of personal information.
A List Of Reputable Paid Survey Sites
But this (admittedly common) scenario is hardly true of all paid survey sites. The reputable ones,
those with a real market research company behind them, will not ask you to sign up for anything at
all. It is these companies--a useful list of which is: American Consumer Opinion, ECN Research,
Global Test Market, GoZing Surveys, Greenfield Online, Lightspeed Research, NFO My Survey,
Pinecone Research, Survey Savvy, Survey Spot, and Test Spin--that you are advised to start with.
If instead you find yourself dealing with a front end operator whose only reason for existence is
to extract a few dollars from you before you find a real source of paid surveys, then you are going
to find the entire process something of an uphill struggle. So, be on the lookout for any
"get paid to sign up for offers" site that poses as a paid survey site. You will want to avoid them.
Points vs Cash
Other sites offer points instead of cash for filling out the surveys, and you can convert these
points into products somewhere down the line. You may also wish to avoid these sites unless you
find it fun to fill out surveys. Cash in hand is a lot more useful than the option to select from
a list of products--few of which you may actually find truly useful. Companies that offer points
instead of cash include: Global Test Market, Lightspeed, NFO My Survey, Opinion Outpost,
Planetpulse, and YourSay. On the other hand, if you take surveys that offer to put you in a
drawing, such as with Marie Brighton, this can often lead to paying offers down the line,
sometimes backed with good money.
Other Resources
You do not need to purchase lists of paid survey sites. If you scout around the web you can find
your own lists for free. The information in this article should be enough to get you started. But
if you are lazy you might very well want to purchase a list to save yourself some time. This link
to the ClickBank Hotshots search engine will certainly bring up some suggestions: Paid Survey Sites. By the way, if any of these ClickBank resources are either very
good, or very bad, please consider reviewing them on this site so that others can benefit from
your experience with them.
Summary Of Paid Survey Sites
In summary, the paid survey site route can be a rocky one. Particularly if you start in not
knowing which offers you should avoid. It is also highly unlikely that you will ever earn enough
income just completing surveys to be able to give up your day job. But if an extra $100 or $200
per month for 15 minutes of work a day sounds reasonable, this might be worth a look. I recommend
that you start off with Greenfield and Global Test Network. If you find you do not like the survey
offerings from these two companies there is a very good chance you will not find much to your
liking elsewhere either. In this case it is probably a good idea to spend your time looking at
something other than paid survey sites.
